InnovatorSpark at London Tech Week 2025: Why Healthcare SMEs Can’t Afford to Keep Managing Clinical Data the Old Way

Stories, trends, and insights that fuel innovation.

Is your healthcare organisation’s internal IT team spending more time keeping legacy systems alive than building the digital products your patients and staff actually need? At London Tech Week 2025, surrounded by some of the world’s most forward-thinking tech companies, this was one of the conversations that kept coming up. And it’s a problem far more common than most healthcare leaders want to admit.

The Team That Was Never Built to Scale

Healthcare SMEs today face a compounding pressure: digital demand keeps growing, but internal IT teams don’t. Telehealth platforms, patient portals, EHR integrations… the list of initiatives keeps expanding while the people responsible for delivering them stay the same size, or shrink.

Hiring isn’t the easy answer it sounds like. Engineering talent in healthcare technology is scarce, expensive, and slow to onboard. And the compliance requirements, HIPAA, GDPR, audit readiness, mean you can’t just bring in generalist developers and hope for the best.

The result is a backlog that never clears, legacy systems that never get modernized, and digital health products that take twice as long to ship as they should.

Why Getting This Wrong Is No Longer an Option

In healthcare, falling behind on digital transformation isn’t just an operational inconvenience, it’s a regulatory and competitive risk. Every month a clinical system goes unmodernized is another month of data accuracy issues, integration failures, and audit exposure. Every quarter a patient-facing product sits unbuilt is a quarter of lost trust.

And as organisations grow, these problems compound: more users, more data, more integrations, more surface area for things to go wrong. The cost of inaction isn’t just inefficiency. It’s exposure.

How the Right Technical Partner Changes the Equation

At InnovatorSpark, we help healthcare companies build and ship software faster, whether that means augmenting their existing team or taking full ownership of a product from the ground up.

What this looks like in practice:

  • HIPAA/GDPR-aligned development: engineers experienced with healthcare compliance requirements from day one, so you’re not learning on the job when it matters most
  • Legacy system modernization: phased approaches that update aging clinical infrastructure without disrupting daily operations
  • EHR/EMR and lab system integration: connecting fragmented platforms into a cohesive, user-friendly experience for clinical staff
  • Faster delivery of digital health products: telehealth platforms, patient portals, and custom clinical tools built to your timeline
  • Scalable architecture and reporting: systems that grow with your user base and give decision-makers the data visibility they need

From Challenge to Clinic: A Real Example

A good example of this is our ongoing work with Drugs Audit, a leading medication audit software company in the healthcare space. Their challenge was handling vast volumes of audit data efficiently while ensuring compliance, scalability, and seamless integration. All within a platform intuitive enough for medical professionals to use daily.

Our team delivered a tailored medical management software solution built on .NET and React, with robust data management strategies, advanced reporting and analytics via SSRS/PowerBI, and a scalable PostgreSQL architecture built to grow alongside their expanding user base. The platform has been in active development since 2024 and continues to evolve with Drugs Audit’s needs.

What We Took Back From Olympia

From June 9 to 11, 2025, Mihai Runcan and Alexandru Dutu represented InnovatorSpark at London Tech Week, Olympia London, Grand Hall, Stand 60, as part of Romania’s official delegation. One of the highlights was the opportunity to connect with Her Excellency Laura Popescu, Ambassador of Romania to the United Kingdom, and Bogdan Mihăilescu, Head of the Trade & Investments Section. A reminder that InnovatorSpark’s work is part of a growing story of Romanian tech making its mark internationally.

The conversations at London Tech Week reinforced what we see in our work every day: the healthcare organisations that will lead the next decade aren’t the best-funded, they’re the ones building the right technical foundations now.

Is Your Healthcare Team Equipped to Deliver What’s Next?

Dealing with a growing backlog and a clinical system that wasn’t built for where your organisation is heading? We’ve helped healthcare companies through exactly that, and we’d be glad to explore what working together could look like.
